    Best Breakfast EVER and Anywhere!!!

    I was visiting Chicago in early April, strolling down Michigan Avenue when hunger hit and I stumbled across YOLK. Sat at the comfortable chairs at the counter and was immediately served coffee and given a menu. The Cajun Portabello Mushroom omelet was a World Series Taste Bud Winner. The combination of eggs, grilled vegetables, topped with a huge mushroom was pleasing to the eye and palate. The service was the best,,very pleasant, quick to refill coffee, went out of their way to find a paper for me to read. Price,,,, very reasonable I live in New England, but travel to Chicago often,,, It is now a must to eat at YOLK.

    My Favorite Breakfast Place

    I am from Florida and was visiting Chicago for about a week for my mom's 50th birthday. We went to Yolk on our first morning. The Oatmeal is out of this world. Also, the banana peanut butter pancakes will make you salivate just by looking at them. Needless to say, we spent the remander of our mornings at Yolk for breakfast. We did venture out to other breakfast places and found that for the same prices, you got less at other places. This place is amazing and I will go there everytime I ever visit Chicago. It does get busy though especially on the weekends so make sure you beat the crowds!!

    Avoid YOLK

    With all the great breakfast places in Chicago, why would anyone choose YOLK? After all, the food here is served-to-order, not made-to-order. Perhaps patrons hail from the newly developed South Loop where restaurant and shopping development still lags the many new condos. So convenient choices are slim. If I lived in the neighborhood, I’d make the trek to someplace good. What do I mean by "served-to-order"? It’s readily apparent that breakfast here is made en masse, like a factory, in anticipation of general demand, not cooked in response to an order taken by a waitress. But unlike a factory, there’s no quality control between the production line and the consumer. The first clue that this is a food factory is the enormous number of seats in the restaurant. Only a cafeteria/buffet approach could feed the hoard if the restaurant were full. But the real proof is evident in the food. Scrambled eggs arrived hard, luke-warm and chopped up. They were pre-made and scooped from a warming tray – but even the breakfast buffet at Marriott Courtyard beats these eggs. Bacon was not cooked to be crispy. The fat was somewhat raw and I’m sure chewy, if we had the stomach to actually eat it. Pancakes were gummy, chewy, flavorless disks. Again, I’d suspect they came from a warming tray. If not, I’d remove the latex from the recipe. Even the toast was inedible. It showed signs of toasting around the edges, but would be more accurately described as a cold slice of bread. In fairness, an order of hash with poached eggs was much better. Nothing special about the hash, but the kitchen did properly poach the eggs, and many breakfast restaurants fail that test. I guess it’s a sign that if the kitchen must cook something to order, they can do it competently.

    Best place for brunch!!

    I absolutely love this place! The food is great, the service is great and the prices are reasonable. I go here almost every wknd and whenever someone ask for a good breakfast place i always recommand Yolk to them and 5/5 loves it. If you havent been here you are missing out.

    Great Blackberry Bananna Pancakes

    These were the best pancakes I've ever eaten and I've eaten a lot of pancakes in my life. I ordered the meat and eggs and paid $1.49 extra or something silly to upgrade to the blackberry and bananna pancakes so I got a huge breakfast and a coffeee for under $10. Beats paying $22 for 2 eggs, bacon, toast and coffee at the Hilton or wherever when traveling. I'll be in town for 3 more days and I'm going back tomorrow morning.

    Fantastic

    I have been to the other breakfast spots in what is becoming the "breakfast district", including: Eleven, Bongo Room and Orange - all of which I think are good. Yolk though, I believe to be the best by far. Their food is amazingly tasty without losing a traditional breakfast feel. I have yet to eat with someone who did not enjoy every part of his or her meal. I think that this is one of the best breakfast spots in the city and is even worth the Sunday morning wait.

    Best breakfast joint in the South Loop

    I guess my title says it all. The menu is vast and diverse. Ordering is the toughest part because everything looks so good. Also, I'm a big fan of the atmoshpere. It's a very contemporary sort of diner. As for the service, it was pretty run of the mill. Overall, it's a can't miss.
