Yassa is great food with poor service...annoying yet authentic. Lived in The Gambia/Senegal for 2 years and time is on their side. You just have to take it easy and get in the "what do I really have to do that is that important today?" mentality.

Whenever my daughter visits Chicago, we grab a bottle of wine or a 6-pack of beer and head to Yassa . I usually order Dibi Chicken w/ Plantains and she orders the Yassa Chicken w/ Rice. We then share the rice and the plantains because the servings are huge. She says the Thiebou Djeun (fish) reminds her of meals she ate when she visited Senegal. I am less adventurous and tend to stick to the chicken dishes. The food is delicious and while the service is somewhat slow, if you have a glass of wine while you're waiting, you begin to relax and get into the spirit of Yassa. With a total bill of $20.00 +tax (no corkage fee), it is hard to beat the value you get here.

Went to Yassa after seeing it on Check Please, The service was so bad, a young lady who was there to eat ended up helping serve food, no joke! They only had a few items on the menu, so we orderd what they had, one fish dish, one lamb, and one chicken.The food was very good, I will go back but i'll have a snack before i go. Maybe the service is better by now, Step it up Yassa, i would hate to see you close because of bad service.

One of Chicago's best kept secrets!!!!

YASSA was a great dining experience for me and my 9 friends last Saturday evening. Our food was DELICIOUS, served quickly, hot, and plentiful. The Host was generous and made us feel quite welcome with his warm hospitality. The Chef visited our table, and we enjoyed great music concert video of African artists as well. They are planning expansion this year, and we WILL return many times again soon.

Highly recommended.

This is somewhere everyone has to stop by at some point. A great chicago secret!
