    Great Food, Awkward Service

So, the sandwich I got here was fantastic. Really flavorful pork on this hard bread that was soaking in tomato broth to soften it up. Just as tasty and satisfying as you could want on a cold early afternoon. However the service at this place is a little weird. First, we had to wait in line only to be told that if we were eating in we'd have to stand to the side and wait some more. Maybe they could have two lines? A number system? Also, when we did get seated, they forgot my coffee, which is no big deal but since you don't get served by the person with whom you ordered, you can't ask your server where your missing item is. I had to brave the clot at the door and make my case at the increasingly crowded counter.

    Worth all the hype

We were so excited to try the new Rick Bayless restaurant and were happy to be the first people in line on a saturday, only having to wait 11 minutes after hearing stories of long lines. The woman at the counter was super friendly and descriptive in her suggestions. Our party of four ordered all different sandwiches. Gunthrop Chicken: Wood-roasted red chile chicken, caramelized onion, black beans, avocado, tomatillo salsa. Very good. Nice selection of fresh veggies and a smoky salsa to compliment that wood fired chicken. Ahodaga: Golden pork carnitas, black beans, tomato broth, spicy arbol chile sauce, pickled onions. Phenominal. Would highly recommend this one if you want something really good and unique. It was served in a bowl of broth. It was the perfect level of heat and a great accompaniment to the sandwich and it's crusty bread. The pork was super tender and the onions were nice a tart. Loved it. Pepito: Braised Tallgrass shortribs, caramelized onion, artisan Jack cheese, black beans, pickled jalapenos. The second best I must say. It has the most amazing smoky flavor and the meat was super tender as well. Great great sandwich. Choriqueso: Homemade chorizo sausage, roasted poblano, artisan jack cheese, tomatillo salsa. Very good as well. We also tried a bunch of the baked goods. The Mexican Vanilla-Sour Cream Coffeecake, Mexican Chocolate Biscochos, churros, a Mexican chocolate and hazelnut cookie and the pumpkin chocoflan. All were great but the best had to be the churros and the cookie. That was one of the best cookies I have ever had in my life and I have had a lot of cookies. The churros were super good and had tiny bits of that Mexican chocolate sprinkled on top. If you have to wait in line, trust me, it's worth it. There are so many other things that we are waiting to try, such as the caldo (soups) only served after 3 and the breakfast items. Not to mention the hot chocolate ground fresh on site. If you are a coffee lover this is the place for you. They brew it right in front of you at your table. This is a must do if you are in Chicago. Rick Bayless can't do me wrong.
