Can't believe so many bad reviews

I live down town and this is one of my "Go To" restaurants for a nice dinner. Unlike many Thai food places, VTK does not have mauve colored walls, cheap furnishings and a television in the background. The upscale interior design makes for a great atmosphere that is not pretentious. The food is excellent. They take the traditional Thai staples and throw in just a little french fusion to keep it from being just the same old boring Pad Thai. I can't figure it out, maybe that is what some of the other reviewers didn't like.

    really bad!

We ate there Sunday evening 9/21/08 and it was by far the worst Thai meal we have ever had. Now we are not gourmands or food critics and they may be doing tremendously welland we hope they arebut here is how we felt about our experience. I ordered the Panang curry shrimp and the flavor was both bland and unappealing. Too much of what i believe was chili was in the curry and for whatever reason the blend was really not desirable. My wife asked for a chicken thai fried rice which was so far from good as to be almost not worth eating. the worst part was the great amount of lemon in it, just weird and unappealing. Now if this is 'haute cuisine' Thai and by being so different from normally seasoned and flavored Thai, and they have 'elevated' the art of thai cooking by cooking dishes this way, so be it, but for us, it was just really really bad and of course as part of the Lettuce group we believe in the overall excellence of their brand, but obviously this meal was a complete zero for us.

    Delicious Thai delivery

If you live downtown you know that getting delivery that is both good and not going to clean out your wallet is tough. I love Star of Siam. I have not dined in...but their delievery is always quick and rather tasty. I would definitely recommend it. As well you can't beat the price-compare it to Vong's Thai Kitchen through CEO and you pay twice as much! If you are looking for great delivery that easy on the wallet this is it!

Decent atmosphere but pad thai is poor

Went to Vong's last night and tried their pad thai... it tasted like nothing but garlic and onion, it was probably the worst pad thai I had in a long time. And to make it worse, I almost paid $13 for it! Strongly not recommended!

    Disappointed

I tried this place out because I had a gift card to use, and Thai is one of my favorite cuisines. I am generally pretty easy going when it comes to eating out, but I was really disappointed with Vong's. My curry was mediocre and paled in comparison to all of the smaller local Thai restaurants I've been to in Chicago. It wasn't very spicy, and the vegetables in it tasted like they came out of some kind of frozen bagged mix. The prices were not outrageous for being an upscale restaurant, but they were pretty steep for Thai food given that it is usually relatively inexpensive. To boot, our server seemed rushed and somewhat put out by even the most basic questions and requests (like more water). It's possible that she was just having a stressful day, but with the food so unimpressive, the service was the only potentially redeeming part of the experience. I definitely don't recommend going to Vong's -- save yourself some money and head somewhere else where you get much tastier food

    Best Thai Food in Town

This is hands down the best Thai restaurant in Chicago. I had the best fried rice (expensive for fried rice) but absolutely worth it. The place had an amazing atmosphere. And the dessert was great. I recommend this to anyone who likes thai food. Also, make sure to make reservations.

    Good alternative business lunch spot

This is a favorite amongst my co-workers and when we are taken out to lunch. The food is delicious and they will prepare it however you like. It is a relatively quiet atmosphere with great service. Seems to be reasonably priced as well.
