Disappointing
After years (15-20) of dining here last night was disappointing. At 7:15 dining room was stuffy, MANY dirty tables, wait 10 min to get water and basket, 15 to get ANY waiter attention and order, 30 min to get food, NO service except by practically tripping someone. Ages to get leftovers and more ages to get a bill. Wait staff seemed to be wandering around with no one in charge. Food was very so so. Waz up, Tiffin?

Will have to give Tiffin a 2nd try
This weekend we were diverted here after our favorite Indian restaurant was unable to accommodate us. It was our first time and we came as a result of a feature in Chicago Magazine. We were taking our cousins out, one of whom is in the navy and loves Indian food. I have to say, we were impressed with the menu and the quality of the food. Navy cuz was also impressed which says something after experiencing the real deal overseas. However, the service was terrible. After our apps were served and eaten the dishes sat empty, our water & cocktail glasses sat unrefreshed and our entree orders were never taken. After about 45 minutes in this state of affairs I called the maitre d' over and asked him to do something about our table and could someone please take our entree order. To his credit, from then on we were fairly well attended. Tho' it did take another 30 minutes for our entrees to arrive once the orders were taken. No one checked in to see if they were ok. And again, once we were finished our dishes sat and sat. Finally, I had to ask to get the check. We joked asking if someone in our party had activated a cloaking device as the staff simply didn't seem to see us even tho' our table was smack in the middle of the dining room. All told we were there 3.5 hours. Ordinarily, we would have left. But the point of dinner was to visit with our cousins, so we tolerated the poor service. The fact that other reviews here say the service is great is encouraging. We would go back to give it a 2nd try anyway because any restaurant can have a bad night. And we very much want to like Tiffin and become regulars. But bad service can destroy a dining experience even when the food is excellent -- which at Tiffin it certainly is.
