In Mom's Memory
My 4 sisters and I went downtown Chicago to Macy's on Saturday Dec 15th in honor of our Mom's memory. Mom loved The Walnut Room and would always talk about it, so my sisters and I decided to go downtown and have dinner...we had a great time and the food was delicious and the price was very reasonable. Although we had a 3 hour wait, it was well worth the wait and we had a chance to walk around and do some shopping while we waited. The service was excellent and everyone was so nice. We loved the beautiful Christmas Tree that stood in the center of the floor. We will definately go back next year.

Not the original pot pie
I agree with the review about the pot pie. They recently change the recipe. Crust not as flaky and thicker. Taste different and yes..oatmeal consistence. Why mess with perfection and tradition from the 1890's. The peach nest chicken salad was good. Service and atmosphere good.

Beware: Chicken Pot Pie Recipe Changed
Long-time lovers of the Walnut Room's chicken pot pie, beware. The recipe was changed this summer, and not for the better. Instead of the lovely pale yellow sauce, they have a thick oatmeal-colored substance. The primary taste is no longer chicken, it's black pepper. The pot pie was a traditional favorite--now I don't care if I ever return.

Great Atmosphere
I wish the Walnut Room had more vegetarian/vegan dishes. Their salads are fantastic, don't get me wrong. What they need are more veg-friendly entrees. At a minimum, they should be using 100% cage-free eggs, serving free range chicken and get more organics on the menu. That said, this is a delightful venue. You leave with that feeling that you went somewhere special so it is great for special occasions, holidays or a place to take out-of-town guests.

wonderful atmosphere
We like going to the Walnut Room at Christmas time. I love the carmelized salmon dish. The wait if quit long so go early.
