great old-style jewish food
What a great place!! Excellent portions! Friendly staff!! And the BEST old-style Jewish food anywhere! From the corned beef to the PICKLED FISH, from the soups to the chili, you can't find a better deli in Chicagoland.

THE place for breakfast
this is the breakfast place to go to if you are HUNGRY....it is hard to breath if you eat it all....all of the omeletes are great. the other meals are good...you can make a whole meal of just the soups...they toss in the bread - really good bread - and heavenly, salty dill pickles.... enjoy!

A perfect diner
The Bagel is the perfect diner. Great deli sandwiches, HUGE Omelets and wonderful soup. The french fries are amazing when they come out hot, the fried chicken is actually pretty good, you really can't go wrong. If you like NY-style diners, with efficient service and great food, this is the place for you.

Fries are not so good...
The soup is amazing. They give a good portion of bread and pickles regardless of what you order which is a plus. The servers are efficient but not very friendly. If you love french fries, this is not the place for you. They are kind of gross. Overall, would return because it's in close proximity to where I live.

Soup is Good Food!
When I was 5 years old, my mother served me up some of her famous Matza Ball Soup and I was in soup heaven. The tase was great, the smell was breathtaking (I even considered making it into a cologne) and the feeling I got from eating was pure bliss. Now, I've had some soup in my days, but never found one that could rival my mother's. The Bagel has done some great work on their soup, and I try to eat a bowl every 2 days and I can honestly say, my mother's is still better.

Bagel in the Rough
This restaurant has a delightfully dingy city vibe to it. The matzah ball soup is excellent and the pastrami and light rye with brown mustard is the way to go. Ask them to cut it thick and it rivals the best I've had in this town. The omlets are huge. If your looking for a five-star dining experience you would best look elsewhere. This is a neighborhood diner as it was meant to be.
