Tapas Gitana Chicago
Posted by Jena on 04/06/2011
The experience and food in this place is definitely NOT a little piece of Barcelona. The tapas is this place is really bland in presentation and taste. The waiter always took a long time to come back to our table to check if we needed something. Anyway, not recommending this place. Save your money for a mini-burger next door.

I absolutely love Tapas and never expected to run into a gem in the middle of boystown. This place is absolutely fantastic. The master chef is a genious when it comes to preparing a menu, and the sous chef is masterful at execution. The staff were very fun and friendy. We came in right at closing, but they welcomed us in and were more than happy to serve us cold tapas. I had the Salmon Curado- which was absolutely fantastic! An explosion of great flavors! I highly suggest sitting at the bar and ordering cold tapas- as the sous chef prepares it right there in front of you. At first it may look a little pricy however, give it a chance- you'll be pleased. I would have paid double for what I ordered- it was THAT good. The atmosphere in the place is very warm and relaxed. Definately a great place to grab a couple of friends- sit back and enjoy each other. From what I'm told by a friend that went with me, the sangria was TO DIE FOR! I HIGHLY reccomend giving it a try!

The food is amazing and really authentic. Without a doubt, the best spanish food/tapas I've had in Chicago. The service is slow, so be prepared, but the waitstaff is helpful and pleasant. The restaurant itself leaves a little to be desired in terms of decor but the back patio is incredible - about eight tables, surrounded by a tall wood fence, lanterns and Christmas lights strung from the trees. Also great sangria.
