Simple, clean, enjoyable.
Stanley's Kitchen is a faux-southern style escape near UIC. The sit down meal starts with a free carbo-load of corn muffins and hushpuppies served with applebutter. The menu splits between traditional sandwiches and better-than-bob-evans "southern fried cuisine". All sandwiches are served with fries, mashes, tator tots or sweet potato chips. I had a simple cheesebuger. My sweet chips were all a little too well done or not done enough. That aside, the burger was cooked to perfection, and the cheese lovingly draped over all it's edges. My table mates went for similar fare. I'd wished I'd ordered the normal fries. One party member ordered the catfish. It looked a little sad amidt an ocean of tator tots though. Ultimately I'd go back and try it again (maybe an actual entree as opposed to a burger or sandwich) because it was a great laid back atmosphere. I'd recommend it if your tastes are simple, and you enjoy having a good conversation versus "stunning decor" or "elegance".
