A little perspective
I went to South Coast with low expectations, as I had read several less than stellar reviews here and on MetroMix. At the end of the evening I found myself overall satisfied with the experience there. Pros: service (our waiter was very attentive and apologized in advance for the wait for the food) food (average sized maki rolls and pretty tasty. we had the dome for desert...absolutely delicious) atmosphere (relaxed, non-pretentious) Cons: Pricey - other reviewers have said this as well, but keep in mind that SC has little competition in the South Loop, allowing their prices to be higher. Sure, up North it's less pricey, but there are sushi places on every corner. Not a bargain sushi place I would eat at regularly, but one that I will definitely go back to again.

Quite good
I happen to think that this is one of the better sushi places around. The salads, appetizers and soups are good and the fish are fresh. They don't have too many crazy-type rolls, which is nice, but they do have some nice vegetarian options as well. The dishes are just creative enough to distinguish the place from being 'ordinary sushi'.

Waaay Over Priced!!
The food is good, but with a zillion sushi joints throughout Chicago this doesn't make my top 10. The fish is fresh, with average size portions, but the prices are somewhat ridiculous. This place is definitely not Japonais or Kamehachi, and for the price you might as well head north to one of these spots!!

too expensive
Sushi is good only if you ask the waitress to make sure that the pieces are done right... otherwise - rolls are so small - you would be better off buying them at Jewel... With sashimi or sushi - same story - feels like they are trying to save by serving smallest pieces (although Coast charges more than places that serve alcohol) in the city... Note to the management: BYOB is a plus, ofcourse - but fresh sushi done right is what you guys should be known for!!!
