I had dinner at Sola again on the 4th of July. Needless to say, we got there 15 minutes too early. They were still having a daily staff meeting so we opted to sit outside and have drinks. We were served by Carol Wallack, the owner and head chef herself. She was very friendly, helpful and attentive. She even made some other great restaurant recommendations that she herself frequents while serving us drinks herself. She also made it a point to stop by on the 1/2 hour while we were eating to make sure that all was well. As you can imagine, we really appreciated the attention. The food is all local ingredients, the food is very clean in the taste/palate sense. I have never had a bad meal or experience here. Our waitress that night was a very sweet girl from northern England who is very friendly, sweet and timely with our drink and food requests. The menu has something for everyone and it also is a menu that offers one of a kind dishes that you do not see at other restaurants so creativity does stand out. The daily specials are always a winner. I will keep coming back as this is a top 5 restaurant of mine for food, service and ambience. It is no wonder that Sola received best newcomer in 2006.

wow...this place was wow :) my bf and I went here for sunday brunch (something we always love to do!) and this place was phenomenal!!! Decor is just lovely....very modern and hip w/o being stuffy or anything. Our waitress was very nice and just the right amount of attentive-ness. My bf got....literally the BEST french toast I have ever had!!! It was the gran marnier souffle french toast....the syrup/sauce was.....WOW...just amazing....can't even explain...you will just have to try it out for yourself. (And I do not even have a major sweet tooth but I loved it!!!) I got their black forest omlet and it was REAL good!!! My bf and I were very pleased with our dishes and would DEF come back to this place!!! A cute restaurant w/ great food....what more could a person ask for???

Carol Wallack brings her magic to this restaurant. Try the duck breast with the Rhone selction from the wine list. Chance are Carol will visit your table to make sure all is well with your meal. Nice decor but it can get a bit loud. Service was spotty the first time we visited, but has since improved. One of our favorite spots in Chicago.

I've been here 4 times and I each time beats the last. I think the food is artfully presented, delicious and creative. Flavors are sometimes subtle as they should be--I think the balance of flavors, textures and temperatures is phenomenal. The cocktail menu is one of the best in the city, the wine list has some unusual and wonderful options and the service is flawless. I also think they have the best breadbasket in the city. It's a sophisticated restaurant for sophisticated palates. I gave it a 4 on atmosphere because it's a little bit loud.

Sadly, bland food, small portions, great atmosphere & service. We had truffle parmesan fries (how can you mess this up?) that were dry & served without a dip/sauce of any kind, the carmelized onion tartlet seemed to miss the gruyere amongst other ingredients, great asian pear salad, poorly fried artichoke fritters (& a really small portion), desserts were somewhat bland & again small. They also seemed to be out of 1/2 the menu items we're ordering. I was pumped about this place, but just don't think the menu quality or portions are good enough to match the price.

I went to Sola with a couple friends for my birthday. A friend was coming in on a typical stormy chicago night and the flight was delayed. I called ahead to let them know we would be late and they were very forgiving about it. The drinks were great and the food incredible and very reasonably priced. I ordered the Mahi which was delicious and others had the seared tuna and salads and one of the specials. All the dishes were amazing. For my birthday they also brought out some chocolate truffles which were amazing. We closed down the restaurant but no one was looking to kick us out. All in all, I would recommend Sola for any type of occasion-birthdays, dates, dinner with friends, etc.
