Refreshing Michigan Avenue Discovery
Cozily nestled in the Essex Hotel, the restaurant and adjoining bar look out on Michigan Avenue and Grant park, The Savoy Bar and Grill provides a welcoming, comfortable ,environment for the nicely prepared and presented, moderately priced, dining. If you enjoy the hearty portions and ample flavor typical of this restaurant's Greek influence with a hint of Michigan Avenue's sophistication then this is your kind of place. Breakfast here on a sunny morning and you will enjoy the passing parade and sun bathed park as much as the substantial food - hot - clearly fresh - and presented with the same thoughtfulness that obviously went into the cooking. Grab a later evening sandwich and nestle back in an atmosphere more reminiscent of a London neighborhood restaurant. There were no surprises. Portions were ample, and again everything showed freshness and proper preparation. Do not expect gourmet, for this is substantial cooking that arms you for a day of business, sightseeing, or a pleasant night's sleep in the adjoining Essex Inn. You're likely to hear the lilting accent of visitors from Europe and Australia who have also uncovered this little gem. Sorry to give away your secrets - Gov!
