My son now lives and work in Chicago as of Jan 2010, at the Apollo Theater just accross the street from the S&P Diner, and I visit there 4-5 times a year. When he first took me to the S&P Dinner, I fell in love with their breakfast. I had the specialty brkfst burrito, hotcakes and grits. This is a breakfast to die for! On every trip I make a point of having breakfast there at least once or twice. I see there were some negative experiences for some folks reported here, but I've had nothing but great eating experiences there... the service has been good, the servers have been friendly...the food fantastic. Maybe the negative folks were there during rush hour... it IS a relatively small diner. Anyway, I'll be there every time I visit Chicago...I'm from Downey, California.

As part of his order, my brother ordered pancakes and they didn't bring him syrup. When he asked the waitress she said one minute and then proceeded to spend 5 minutes at the register doing god-knows-what. When he said he didn't want to pay for his pancakes that became ice cold while he waited for syrup, the waitress said too bad and made an excuse about being too busy. She actually argued with us over pancakes that probably cost 20 cents rather than take them off the bill. When we complained further, she asked us to leave the restaurant. I will never go back there.

Cheapest breakfast I've had in Chicago yet the taste is FANTASTIC!! My husband had the breakfast burrito and I had the banana nut bread french toast (with pecans, fresh bananas and whip cream on top). This was our first visit and we can not wait to return! This place is a gem!
