    Slow Service

I just left there and the service was poor. The food was OK but overpriced. I orignially went in for carryout but the price was high so she suggested i do the buffet which i'm thinking i can serve myself. I had to ask for toast 3x extra napkins 2x, Orange juice refill took FOREVER. The waiter kept walking around asking were we okay. what really got me was he told some customers that they had to pay for the leftovers because they don't waste food here. the couple said they would take it with them and he said that will be $3.00. They should've mentioned that when they sat down. I will NEVER go back to this place

Food was good, very nice staff

I went to PP because my sister just love the short rib of beef which she gets as a carry out order . I really kind of agree with all the previous reviews. I had the buffet big mistake not that the food was not good it was ok but it was a slow day and the staff was still very slow and the little plates and amount of food service was almost a joke. My husband had the fried perch from the menu and it was great. The staff was kind and nice it just a slow pace place. It could really use a upgrade. I had something on the buffet called Oscar ribs which was neck bones with various peppers in a gravy it was good really but I got one bone and it was more bone than meat. The fried chicken which I'm told is great was cold so I can't rate that. One reviewer mention that PP is better than McArt or Dixie Kit, I totally agree with that reviwer the food at PP is better. I also agree that it needs a little more of the WOW factor.

    It's all about the food

Read other reviews and you've got to be kidding me. The food is phenomonenal.. yeah you may wait a while during the week (I went on a Wednesday) but the food is well worth the wait. IF the atmosphere and unsweetened tea is important, find another place, but I promise you that the food won't be as good..... and that means Dixie Kithcen and McArthur's. Seriously good dining for those who like to eat.

    ThanksGiving Day 11-27-2008

This was my first time eating at this restaurant with my family. The decor is colorful and interesting. There are many wonderful pictures and posters of great African-American entertainers on the wall. The buffet selections were good, but the food was not hot enough, and the buffet cost too much at $19.95/per person. Some of the sides tasted like leftovers or over cooked. The peach cobbler was served cold instead of hot and did not taste freshly made. The service was very slow because the food was served cafeteria style with one person doing the serving most of the time. Amenities of the restuarant are good. There is ample seating, free parking, clean washrooms, and easy access from the Dan Ryan Expressway. Overall, the food and dining experience was average. A good note about the food is that it is not highly seasoned or greasy, which is beneficial for people watching their intake of sodium and fats. While I probably would not try the buffet again unless improvements are made, I would definitely consider returning to order from the menu. The menu selections are very inexpensive.

    Horrible Service

After eating here about eight to ten times, I have vowed never to return. The food is fine, with nice portions, though a little overpriced. There really isn't much atmosphere, but at least it's quite if you want a conversation. But the service is aggravating, slow, at times even insulting! This is not to say that we haven't occasionally had an attentive server. Unfortunately that's more the exception. It just isn't worth it to me to be treated poorly when I'm paying so much money for food.

    Missing the WOW!!

This should be the premiere sit-down restaurant in the area but "Pearl's Place" misses the opportunity. Saturday buffet is good and reasonable. Nothing to "WOW" about. Sunday buffet is good, convenient and over priced but most important it misses the "WOW" stand in line for or travel out of the way dining experience. Service is SLOW Monday-Friday, don't go if you are limited on time. The wait staff is friendly but they take too long to take your order and deliver your requested check. They need to invest in quality coffee and unsweetened iced tea. Love the historical photos on the walls. The owner should hire a consultant because this location should be the place to dine for breakfast and lunch within a 10 mile radius Monday-Friday because parking is convenient and it is between 90/94 and South Shore Drive(I-41).
