Disappointing Lunch at the Grill
Arriving about 1:30pm, we told the host we were planning a leisurely lunch. After rejecting the first table in the bar area, he seated us in a high traffic area in the restaurant even though other tables were available. We had to ask the waitress for place settings after the rolls arrived. We also asked about butter but she said she would have to "go all the way downstairs" to get it if we wanted some. Then we were subjected to a fairly loud discussion near our table by the waitstaff discussing the weather. For an $80 lunch, it was a disappointing experience. The food was ok. Needless to say we didn't stay for dessert and coffee.

There are two sides to this restaurant
Nicks is a great place to go after work for an upscale happy hour. They have daily specials like $5 martini and $5 margarits. They also really great food specials everyday during the same time frame from 5-7. They server Gigantic shrimp for $1 each or 4 mini sandwiches for $3. We went there and had a fabulous time and left stuffed! I definitely recommend this place to go with coworkers after work for a classy non expensive time.

A bit overpriced for what you get...
Not to say this place wasn't good but for what we paid, the entrees could have used more unique ingredients. I got the dover sole and it was good, but not something that "wow"ed me.....(esp when it was $40), which was a bit disappointing. The sides were good but not something that stood out (being sweet peas and cut potatoes in a light sauce). My bf's dish was good and alright. He got the seafood platter which had a array of mahi-mahi, grouper, shrimp, and scallops. However, we DID enjoy the dessert: a molten chocolate cake which came out nice and warm! The decor was nice and intimate. Overall, we did have a good time and the place was good...but not OUTSTANDING. Servers were REAL nice and friendly :)

My favorite Chicago Restaurant
I always make it a point to visit once or twice every trip to Chicago. While an upscale restaurant, they always make one feel welcome, even dressed casually on a snowy day. Delicious food, pricey, but worth it. I recommend it!
