Best Sammy's Around!
The deli truly has the best sammy's around. Some may complain about the $8 price, but by the time you factor in the quality of the meats and cheeses and the size of the sandwich, its not worth whining about. I mean, this isn't subway we're talking about here... The owner is a sweetie pie, and his fellow workers are just as nice. There have been complaints that the service is a bit slow, but its not fast food. Making such a wonderful sandwich takes time and skill. so relax. the longest i've ever waited is 10 mins, 5 of which were spent on the customer before me. so if you can't wait 5 mins, this is not the place for you. The ambiance is lacking. There is only a kitchen table with about 3 chairs...so if you're thinking it's going to be a sit down restaurant...think again. Overall the place is a great deli. That atmosphere may be missing, but the food and friendly service is what I go for. ;)

Best Sandwich in Chicago?!
I first stumbled across NY Deli when I was working in the Lakeview area several years ago. I had always passed the little corner store and wondered what it was all about. It could easily be mistaken for one of the countless Bodega corner stores we have scattered all over Chicago. However NY Deli is something special, a true hidden gem in a neighborhood that is quickly becoming a homogeneous mix of Chipotle's and Subways. Let me begin by just going ahead and putting it out there: New York Deli makes some of the best sandwiches in Chicago. Why, you may ask? The ingredients are key. They use phenomenal Boar's Head meats, which are known for their quality. The bread they use is the read deal, none of this ultra processed stuff. The edges are crunch, while the body of the bread is firm and heavy. The veggies are fresh, green romaine lettuce, hand-cut tomatoes and onions, and delicious deli pickles. Secondly, the price is outstanding! For under six bucks, you get a gigantic sandwich, stuffed with meat and vegetables. Thirdly, the nostalgia factor. This is one of those corner stores that is a cultural/social meeting grounds for the neighborhood. Much like you see in NY, locals mostly frequent it, pick up a newspaper, talk with the owner, and grab a sandwich. It's a special place that dips back to the times when corner stores weren't White Hen's. The owner is really cool and may come off a little harsh, but hey, he's from New York! As for the atmosphere, it is what it is; a corner store! They is just enough space to grab a quick bite and in the summer there are tables outside. Do yourself a favor and go and get one of the best pastrami sandwiches in Chicago and experience a little piece of NYC, right here in Chitown.
