Surprisngly good
We went here for a couple of drinks (and some people watching) and discovered that they had re-decorated and completely changed the menu to a Meixican/Latin concept. The food was surprisingly good. We ordered tuna tostadas which were a perfect size for an appetizer and were incredibly fresh tasting and a great mix of crunchy and spicy. The tortilla soup was earthy and smoky with just enough spice to keep it interesting. The entrees were the perfect size. The shrimp Vera Cruz had giant fresh shrimp with peppers and onions in a broth which included olives and capers. My wife had the Pork Carnitas which was two different kinds of pork, shredded (like poulled pork) under medallions of sliced pork tenderloin which were perfectly cooked. The entire thing was stacked on a crunchy black bean (and corn?) cake and drizzled with a flavorful and colorful tangy/sweet/spicy blood orange sauce. For desert we had a chocloate cake flan that was more chocolate than flan but was a great mix of flavors. Service was casual and friendly and we didn't have to wait for a table inside (the patio was packed). Mexx (I haven't decided if I like the name) is also a great value, especially in this neighborhood...nothing on the menu was more than $22 and our entire meal (inluding tip) was less than the cost of most of the entrees for one person across the street at Gibsons. After dinner we went into the lounge up front and finished our evening with a couple of sipping tequilas (they say they have over 100 tequilas) and watched all the "beautiful people" strut along Rush Street.
