There food is excellent. You can drink liquor if you want but its byob. I suggest you go in and sit down if it's your first experience so you can really soak in the food. Make sure you tell them that too. They gon lay it out. They even serve crab legs. Oxtail tails bangin. Cabbage is always perfect never overcooked at all. Excellent rice and peas but make put more gravy they be stingy wit the gravy. Enjoy!

the food is usually good but that depends on what time of day you go. The service is poor. Doubt if I ever eat here again, or recommend.

Although im a "family member" the food honestly is fantastic. But u must know I dont eat ANYBODYS food but my moms. NO the cook is not my mom. Im a VERY PICKY eater. I send back food if im not satisfied. They never know when im coming since i live in Mn. but I never miss the chance to go when im in town. The place was once called Maxine she ws never the cook. The cook is the same as always, Maxine's sister. Night time is their busier time so i go in the day time. Which could explain some bad service. No buisness will fully staff a slow time of day, and a busy shift will equal slow service. Sorry its alot to read but I felt I should share. So when ever u decide go just make sure to enjoy.

Though called Campbell's, the restaurant is still Maxine's. The cook is the same, the menu is exactly the same (except for the cover), and the food tastes the same. Oh, and the service (unfortunately) is the same. However, if you liked/hated/loved the food at Maxine's you'll like/hate/love the food at Campbells. The more things change...

I am personally a jerk chicken feen and everybody that knows me knows this. When I hear of a good jerk chicken place I will travel miles to see if it meets my standards. I researched Maxine's before I drove from the Westside to the Southside and heard nothing but good things about their food. To my suprise the resturant is now called Campbell's. What happened to Maxine's? I guess the quality of the food left with the name. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty tasty, i had the orginal jerk chicken, the barbeque jerk chicken, and the catfish. I have had better. The chicken didn't taste seasoned enough, the barbeque sause was too tangy, and my fish was cold. Oh and the dipping sauce, too watery and not spicey enough for my taste.... but if you are a jerk chicken virgin, its a pretty good alterative to the regular old barbeque chicken.

Seriously delicious food. The problem with Maxine's is that the service is pretty poor (as noted in other reviews), and there have been several occasions where I've gone to the restaurant to find it closed the middle of the lunch hour with absolutely no explanation. Still, the oxtail and butter bean stew is worth the inconveniences. If Maxine's could get its act together (be open when it claims to be, maybe spruce up the atmosphere of the place a bit, and improve service), it would never lack for customers.

The service is Horrible! the food is the only thing that keeps that place going. They don't keep regular business hours CALL first or you run the risk of staring at those rusted gates.The food is ALWAYS great! the wait is sometimes just not worth it.Did I already mention about the horrible service?
