I've been here a few times, and my boyfriend of Italian descent and his family regularly have their "get togethers" here. The fried and grilled calamari appetizer is excellent, the fried calamari isn't over battered. The grilled vegetable platter is so delicious, as are their pasta dishes. Mario has stopped by to see how things are every time I've been in here. I would definitely choose Mario's over Rosebud or Carmine's.

My friends love this place but I rate it as being ok. The food is decent but I don't go out of my way to eat there like I would for Morton's or Mambo Grill. I felt that it was somewhat bland tasting. I have eaten Italian all my life (and not just spaghetti) so I do have a good baseline for comparison. Also the price seems high given the ok quality of the food. The interior of the restaurant is nothing to write home about though the people working there are very friendly and the service is good. Mario (at least I think that is who it is) regularly walks around the tables making sure everyone is enjoying themselves. I will go there again though as it is a decent alternative when I don't want to make the trek down to the Viagra Triangle or River North
