I was disappointed with the food. Maybe, it might been because we had vegetarian indian food but it was extremely disappointing. I have better indian food at some of the cheap Indian restaurant on Devon (and much better at medium priced Indian restaurants on Devon). Overpriced, small portions, and not very tasty. Recommend about any of the restaurants on Devon over Marigold's. Not recommended for its food, maybe its atomosphere.

We were five very picky diners eating at Marigold, and the whole experience was amazing. Our waiter was patient and friendly with our various allergies and aversions, explained the contents of all the dishes clearly, and by the end of the meal we had a great rapport. But the point is the food! It was SPECTACULAR. The saag paneer is unlike anything I've ever had, not just spinach but also full of onions and bits of tomato and an amazing firm paneer that's incredibly flavorful. The shrimp malabar appetizer is good (if a bit skimpy with only three shrimp) and the date-onion chutney that comes with the samosas was so delicious I asked for the recipe. (Sadly, I didn't get it.) I'm definitely coming back, and bringing friends.

NYC has long had eclectic, high-end Indian restaurants such as Tabla & Tamarind, and it's great to see Chicago now has the same with Marigold. Food is excellent, with new twists on the familiar plus inventive dishes mixed with Indian spices. Atmosphere is more trendy and upscale than usual Indian spot, and service was good, plus it has a nice bar area. Highly recommend and worth the trip north.

I had been looking forward to trying Marigold for a long time, but was very disappointed. The mango lassi cocktail didn't taste like a lassi at all. It didn't even taste like mango. It just tasted like the cardamom vodka they use. The shrimp appetizer was really bland and the murg (chicken) entree was not much better. Not what you would expect from Indian food. My date said the lamb vindaloo was not bad though. The naan was really bizarre too. The service was extremely slow. At one point, we wondered if they had forgotten about us. To top it all off, the prices here are really high both for this neighborhood and for Indian food.

Marigold was recommended by a friend - and did not disappoint! We went on a Sunday around 6:30. The gold/red/warm colored walls and ceilings were classy but not stuffy or overly trendy. Quite gorgeous. We were able to talk without shouting - don't know if it gets noisier later in the evening! The food was absolutely fantastic. We ordered samosas that came with the freshest tamarind and mint sauces; for entrees we had lamp chops and a vegetarian plate. The presentation was beautiful - no silver trays here, but white plates and beautfully arranged food. The flavors were stunning! SO fresh and clean and complex. My saag paneer was so good - I couldn't stop eating the spinach (usually I pick out the cheese first!), which was the star in the dish - fresh and tasty, not gloppy and over-sauced. The thing that stood out was that every dish was perfectly spiced - and not overly hot! Sometimes it seems like all you are getting is sauce and hot peppers... not the case here. Our server Nick was fantastic and helped us through our beer selection when we arrived. And the end of our meal while chatting he informed us that all spices were hand ground daily - which obviously makes a HUGE difference! Marigold is a little pricey; it's definately an "upscale" dining experience. We can't wait to go back!!! :)

Service was slow. Food was not up to par in taste and not worth the money. The kheer (rice pudding) was more nuts than rice. Would not go back

My wife and I love Indian food and seek it out whenever we travel. We once drove 100 miles out of our way to go to a recommended Indian restaurant. We were in Chicago recently and were told Marigold was the place to go. We were not disappointed. Everything was superb. The food, the staff, and the atmosphere were exceptional and without a flaw. Fortunately for us we go to Chicago frequently and this will be a regular stop for us.
