    Awesome!

Asked about accommodating a vegan diet so that I can take my husband, and the host had the chef call me to talk about the menu options--tis a rare thing for a vegan to get so much respect in the Midwest!

    A great spot

We went to La Petite Folie this week for the first time and the food was tremendous - first class. The service was outstanding and atmosphere was very good. We enjoyed our dining experience and will definitely go back.

    No Response

I treated my husband and a friend here. The service, including the maitre d', was stiff, snooty, and unknowledgeable. Their food was okay, but my fish dish was overdone and the black walnut cake I ordered was dry and had no black walnuts. I don't like to make a fuss when I'm out with friends (it's supposed to be fun) so I didn't return the dishes or complain at the time. However I did write a letter to the executive chef explaining nicely my problems with her restaurant. She never responded. We've not returned. My husband and I have lived in Hyde Park for 25 years. We enjoy many aspects of the neighborhood but we don't frequent any of the restaurants/ cafes/joints because they're about 30 years behind the times. Market ingredients? No way! Animals for meat raised in responsible, humane ways (can we at least get a Chipotle here?) How about just clean!?!?! Walk out as soon as you see the cooks having a food fight in the open kitchen--this just happened at the newly opened Z & H Market on 57th St. These stores are why Hyde Parkers are the best customers of restaurants outside the neighborhood.

    Chicago's hidden gem

food was some of the best French dishes I have had in Chicago and I eat out frequently. Our server was outstanding. The management was also v ery attentive. I look forward to my next visit.

    Good food

My date and I had a great time. Our waiter was amazing recommending the perfect wine to go with our meal out of a wine list that is way more extensive then you would expect on the south side. The food was excellent. I had an amazing salad and the salmon was cooked to perfection, not dried out and well seasoned. My date had the scallops and while completely silent while eating, she wouldn't stop talking about them. They should be in a better location but the atmosphere despite that lends itself to an intimate meal. Our waiter was one of the best I've come across in Chicago, respectful, knowledgeable and attentive. Overall, I'd say its a great place for a date in Hyde Park.

Good food - unfortunate maitre d'

We had a pleasant dinner with good service from our waiter, reasonably well prepared food, although the tuna steak was cooked way too dry. Unfortunately, the maitre d' who greeted us was not the nicest - snotty and uncooperative. Refused to re-seat our party, even though the restaurant was only half-full, if that. The decor and ambience were very pleasant. The location is awful, though. May be Hyde Park, but pretty cruddy part of the neighborhood.

    Good restaurant

La Petite Folie has excellent French food, good service, and a nice atmosphere. The prices are high, but the food is worth it once in a while. Highly recommended. N.B.--Make sure to get precise directions if you aren't familiar with the neighborhood; it can be tough to find.
