    Great Food, Comfortable Place

For Mexican food, it is above average. Great drinks, very comfortable feel to the place and the servers are not in your face every 5 minutes like other restaurants. TV's are there as well if you are in the mood to catch the game. They have a nice sidewalk area for outdoor seating as well.

    Do not eat here

Don't go to La Cantina Grill if you are looking for a quiet dinner with good service and tasty food. After a less than satisfactory first meal at the restaurant, I gave it another shot last night and confirmed that I will never go there again. The acoustics are terrible and we could hear almost every other diner's conversation in our area. The waitress seemed completely uninterested in serving us and even turned away from me before I had finished giving her my order. To top it off, the food was subpar and my rice came with an extra-long hair. When I showed it to the waitress (and manager for that matter), their first reaction was "What color is it?" Not - I'm very sorry or Can I bring you something else. Since the hair was blonde, they proceeded to tell me that there were no blondes working in the kitchen and seemed to imply that I was at fault. No one at our table was even remotely blonde. Instead of being gracious and accomodating, the staff and manager were unfriendly and accusatory. I do NOT recommend this restaurant - their food and customer service are terrible.

    Right from the freezer

Everything was bland and boring. The food tasted like the cheap frozen food you get at the grocery store. I've had mediocre food before and chucked it up as not such a big deal, but this food was so subpar that I almost wanted to demand my money back!

Great drinks, but not great food

I ate at La Cantina Grill on 11/17/07. I ordered the Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo, one of my favorite Mexican shrimp dishes. The dish was so bland, it tasted like no seasoning was used in the preparation. Even the shrimp tasted like frozen, pre-cooked shrimp. The flan dessert was good, though, and the Margarita was one of the best I've had in ages. I would go back for drinks, but not for the food.

    Poor Mexican food

This was the worst burrito i have ever had and it cost $10. It was mostly tortilla, the meat was flavorless. The tiny side of rice was dry and tasted like cardboard and the beans were like eating flavorless lard. Stay very far away. I wasn't the only one in our office that thought so.

real mexican finally in south loop

The food is very good and I liked the bar decor. They have a real Texas longhorn hanging over the bar. The prices are very good and the service was not bad. I had one of their drinks that I've never heard of (they said it is from Jalsco or something) it was good. It was a tequila drink. The seviche was good and I liked my girlfriend's chickin in mole sauce. My Mexican steak was really good, tender and juicy. I'll be back. I live in the neighborhood and have been waiting for a place like this to open.

small on options but big on flavor

The restaurant is small and so is the menu, but everything from the salsa and chips to the guac and enchiladas were delicious. The South Loop needs more low-mid priced places like this!
