tacos not on the menu
Kikuya is not inexpensive, but it's not serving cheap food. Kikuya serves excellent food at a fair price.

Because it in the Neiborhood
This is not an excellent place to have sushi. It is a good place to go for a little taste of sushi. All of the sushi taste the same there is not creative [select]ions it might have a creative name, but it just taste like the other sushi dish you just had. The service is pleasent and it is a very good place to chill with a friend just for the taste of just sushi. Peace

Awesome little place
Kikuya has crazy decor, but in a good way - kind of eighties mod-looking, maybe? It's cozy and there's a wait sometimes, but for good reason. I love the sushi there, it's not overpriced (and this comes from a uchicago student, whatever the guy beneath says), and the best treat is the mochi balls of gelatin and ice cream at the end. I love the green tea and red beans. Try the Futo Maki.

Good food
This place is one of the best in the Hyde Park area. Not really a big place so a reservation is usually needed for groups of 5 or more. (Had to wait 20 minutes for a table of 6.) Their sushi is exceptional with their dragon maki being the biggest I've ever seen in Chicago. For hot food, their salmon teriyaki is delicious. Would recommend!

Good Japanese and Sushi
One of the best restaurants in Hyde Park. Typically bashed by University of Chicago students (who are notoriously cheap) for being over priced, in actuality Kikuya is a moderately priced option for good sushi on the South Side of Chicago. Try one of the combo dishes (such as the Kikuya Combo) for a very fulfilling dinner of sashimi, beef teryaki, tempura, miso soup, salad, cucumbers and rice. Giu Don (sliced glazed beef on rice) is also another favorite option if you're not in the mood for raw fish.
