Having known the Aronuxs for many yrs and working there in high school. I've loved these sandwiches since I was a little kid. I moved away and haven't had one in about 15 yrs, but now I'm back and can enjoy them once again.

Lane Tech Class of 78. I ate at Heros at least 3 times a week. I now live 32 miles north and I still come back at least once a month because there isn't a better sub out there. Great stop before a Cubs game or biking at the lake.

I graduated from a Gordon Tech High School in 1968. School was very near to Hero's Subs, so we used to sneal out of school for lunch and get the best sub in Chicago. As a matter of fact the Coaches who knew we used to sneak out gave us money to get the subs too. My daughter who now lives in Wrigley Ville needed a ride from the suburbs where we live now. I told her I would drop her off if she allowed me to buy her a Hero's, the best sub in Chicago. I told her the history before we walked in, ordered our sandwiches, and talked to the people there, only to find out that it was still owned (49 years) by the same people. I am 62 and they were the same people that made those beautiful subs a million years ago. And guess what...they were just as good as they were then. I was Livin The Dream.

I've always enjoyed Hero's Subs for the past 34 years. All through my HS days at Lane (Class of '82) and continue to... still have not found a better sub sandwich shop anywhere.

Hero's is hands down the best place to go get a classic sub. My family has been going there for three generations now (my grandparents even tried to open a hero's on the south side, but were unsuccessful) and nothing reminds me of Chicago more than a mixed cold cut. Every time I'm home from College, the first place I go for lunch is Hero's (and they still remember my face after all these years).

One of Chicago's hidden treasures. It's standing room only, but has a great old school feel. The vegetarian subs are awesome.
