This is not for the gourmet but for the gourmand. Fantastic deep fried chicken, excellent value. Going here for the atmosphere or service is like going to Topolobampo for the Southern fried chicken (they don't have any). Get real, people, this is a fast food chicken place, and a fantastic one.

Easily the best chicken in Hyde Park. Globally, the only question is: great chicken or greatest chicken?

i live in the neighborhood and have been to several different Harold's Chicken Shack. this is by far the worst place i have eaten ever. the first time i ordered something it was disgusting and i thought possibly that that time was just one those days. so i decided to try it again - big mistake. i swear my food was the worst thing ever yet again. and the problem was that the chicken was favorless. how exactly do you screw up chicken? i'm thinking a lot of effort of doing nothing. and i was completely disppointed.i always tell people don't go there. my experience is a couple of years old and during that time i hope things have gotten better because i really like harold's chicken shack. i am just afraid and i refuse to waste my money here, yet again.

If you are looking for chicken livers, this is one of the best places to get themtopped with their hot sauce, they are delightful: crunchy on the outside, smooth and creamy on the inside and perfectly cooked. A great value too, the large lasts for at least two meals! I've never ordered the chickenbut I imagine it is just as good. Atmosphere is terrible. Only go to Harold's for take-out, but in the daytime, the park nearby is nice to sit in. Pick up some fruit from Hyde Park Produce next store, and you've got the perfect spring picnic. Two Thumbs Up!

The service may be piss poor and there is no decor, but the chicken is undoubtedly good. Stick with the classic wing order and maybe venture to the fried gizzards and livers and you'll be very happy. Knowing what you want also helps...mild sauce, hot sauce, or no sauce. The people who hate it must ahve gotten it mixed up because I know people who will gladly bypass three others to get to this one

I'm a Hyde Park native. This is one of the best Harold's in the city as long your expectations are for good food from a joint. The service can be iffy, but the food is good and the price is right.

This is the worst Harold's Chicken Shack in the enitre Midwest. It's overpriced, the establishment is not very clean, the service leaves much to be desired. When it was located on 53rd & Kenwood it was great but not anymore.
