As a kosher diner in Rogers Park, I've eaten at Hamachi many times. I prefer the more "decadent" rolls that have tons of ingredients, but my friends always stick with basic rolls. My favorite, though, is the pasta yasai. I never thought some noodles mixed with vegetables and olive oil could be so amazing but I COULD NOT stop eating it. The restaurant itself is kind of small and can get crowded so I try to go during off hours. Be aware that since it's a kosher place the prices might be a little higher than the average sushi spot.

We enjoyed dinner so much! First of all, I requested a special order not on their menu (black rice, tuna, California vegetables, no avocado, no mayo or sauce of any kind)- they not only asked if I'd like it & then added asparagus to the sushi roll too, but I had a delicious grilled side order of asparagus with just a touch of olive oil & garlic as well.My husband enjoyed his fried tilapia sandwich and fries, too. (I don't eat fried stuff but no reason he can't enjoy it once in a while.) Delicious dinner with appropriate portions & very friendly service.

Great sushi with creative rolls. It's a trendy decor but with so few tables and seats, it's clearly meant to be more of a carry-out place. Possibly with a growing popularity, they could extend to a full sit down restaurant.

Ambience isn't great, location isn't great and ONE waitress bussed, waited, cleared, brought checks. But besides that, the food is really darn good. Can't find too many places that put wasabi-crusted avocado in their maki (California Crunch). All the maki, even the plain crunchy tuna rolls, were really, really good.
