This place is tough to beat if you want reasonably priced seafood in the city. My favorite order is the side salad with the cold king crab legs; but the scallops, clam strips, and other fried treats are also solid. It's also just a great place to sit outside, relax, have a beer with friends and enjoy the summer weather after hanging out at the lake.

I lived around the corner from The Half Shell 32 years ago. It became one of my haunts and I go back whenever I'm in Chicago. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is quirky, and they don't take reservations. The bartender seems to remember you from the other patrons lined three deep and let's you know when your table is ready. Try the "32 Pointer". It's my favorite.

i always compare all crab legs to the king crab legs that i had at the halfshell and none can even come close. the quirky staff made it alot of fun and were kid friendly. the price is right and the food is great. try their mulligan stew. awesome

The food here, especially the king crab is amazing. A no -frills joint with unfriendly staff that I keep going back to because of the gigantic portions of Alaskan king crab and clam strips.
