Best Indian Food in the City
Ghareeb Nawaz offers up some of the best food in the city! We pick up food at this small dingy little restaurant 2-3 times a week and absolutely love it! While most of the menu is meat-orientated there is a decent number of vegetarian dishes - they prepare the BEST veggie biryani I've ever had and their naan is freshly made and absolutely delicious. My boyfriend says the food is spot-on for authenticity. For such cheap prices you'd expect bland food but its the complete opposite, this place is the best deal in Chicago. The service is slow - we usually order ahead and still wait for awhile when we go to pick it up but its worth it when you're spending $7 on 2 or 3 entrees and a few pieces of naan. The servings are big enough that we always have left-overs for the next day. Ghareeb Nawaz is a famous Sufi saint who is popular in India and other countries which is reflected in the photographs throughout the restaurant. This place is extremely popular with Muslim and non-Muslim Indians and so its very crowded on major Muslim and Indian holidays so if you don't have a lot of time make sure you call ahead!

Great Deal, Excellent Food
I stumbled into Ghareeb Nawaz when I first moved into Chicago about 6 years ago. I was on a whirlwind bike tour of Devon and stopped into every little restaurant and shop for a bite to eat. On the outskirts of Devon, on my way home, I stumbled into this place with nothing but 5 bucks and zero expectation. I had my mind blown! For five dollars I ate like royalty, to say the least. The food is super authentic Northern Indian. Given, the atmosphere is not fine dining or even casual. Its basically similar to a lunchbox dining establishment...minimal seating...you order, sit, eat, and go. However, it has it's own appeal in that you might forget your even in Chicago while being there, seeing the people, and enjoying the fantastic food. Yes, the service is a bit slow, so be prepared to wait 15 to 20 minutes for your food. Every time I go there, I get Chili Chicken Rice and a Naan. Other fantastic dishes are Chicken Bhiryani and Lamb Bhiryani...all under $5. This place will always be one of my favorite cheap ethnic food spots in Chicago. If your feeling adventurous, go there.

Got to try
My review won't be too dissimilar to the other reviews. If you like Moghul (North Indian) food - here's a spot. It's very authentic, so those who don't tolerate spice beware. The quality and value are incredible. Perhaps the best meal in the city for $5-7

Great for the price
I love this place. First, It is opened almost 24 hours a day. Most food items are very good in comparison with other traditional desi restaurants and it is very cheap. I am talking about dirt cheap. Actually, the restaurant name "Gareeb" means poor but doesn't just reflect on the food quality there. There is a university nearby(Loyola) and there were are students that would eat at the restaurant and I am not just talking about desis. The service and atmosphere are at best okay but to many of the patrons, it doesn't matter because of the food quality and value. I would especially recommand the beef Byrianni.

OMG I love their food!
This place has the some of the best desi food on Devon! I have seen people who drive all the way from Indiana and Wisconsin every weekend just for their chicken biryani! The prices are amazing too...you can pretty much feed your whole family for under $10. And I have been there recently and it seems like they've really cleaned the place up. They made a new section for families and its so clean! And they remodeled their bathrooms...with marble and state of the art furnishings! It seemed like a bathroom from a five-star restaurant! I usually hate public bathrooms but I had no problem using this one. They also have a prayer room and a place to make Wudu. Hands down...first-class fast food!

Good food for cheap
This place is great. I love the food, it is really authentic and cheap. However, it can be a bit too spicy for people who are not familiar with food from the Indian Sub-Continent. I would suggest - Try the Kebob plate which comes roti (pita bread) or the biryani (rice with meat) Enjoy! Tip - yogurt will cut the spice.
