Gene & Georgetti

The waiter was awesome, got seated right away, the food was great for all 9 of us.Can't wait to go back and try more things.

Took staff there last night and was embarrassed. Had 8:00 reservations and was seated at nine, all the while standing at the crowded bar. The food was the worst disappointment. The liver and onions was not fit to eat. I actually ate only the onions. The portions were very large but so what. This place should never be rated 4stars. I would give it one star compared to the great restaurants in Chicago.

In town for a conference, and was told that Gene & Georgetti was highly recommended. What a crock. This was the worst steakhouse I have been to in 10 years. I took 5 other executives with me and I was embarrassed for recommending this restaurant. The steaks had no flavor and the "sautéd" mushrooms did not have either butter or wine on them. They tasted like they had been microwaved. The cost of the meal did not reflect the quality of the food. Don't get sucked in by the "reputation" because obviously the quality of the food no longer meets the level of the reputation.

I was here last week and visited several Chicago noted steakhouses. The place was too busy which made the service very poor and all the staff was a bit rude. I asked waiter for their best steak prepared the best way possible and it was not that good. The food was overpriced and the drinks were water-filled. My whole experience was much less than desireable. The best steak house in Chicgo is found on Erie St.

I dropped into downtown Chicago on my first overnighter on business there and asked the cab driver for his steakhouse of choice. He drove me up to Gene and Goergetti and said I could not go wrong. I stepped out into Old Chicago. Great atmoshpere and even better service. I enjoyed one of the very best end cut t-bones ever and it makes my mouth water thinking about this cut today. Filled the plate, and I mean a big plate. ( I serve Turkey at Thanksgiving on a plate this big.) The steak was perfect, and the sides were very good. The restuarant was crowded, but the waiters made me feel comfortable and important. They served quickly, but not so quick that you got the sense that they were pushing for tables. They were efficiently and attentive without compromise. I recommend G&G's to everyone who gets out to the windy city. I will make this my dinner stop whenever I find myself in Chicago.

Our visit to Gene and Georgetti was an excellent dining experience. At the start we were greeted in a friendly manner and promptly taken to our table. No wait, even though it was at prime time. Our server was professional. We had the right amount of time for drinks and apps before ordering dinner. Service was prompt, the food good and the portions large. The price was fair. The restrooms were clean as well. In summary, this was a fun place to have dinner. Despite what the other reviews say, we were treated as well or better than a Chicago alderman.

If you love old world style restaurant atmosphere, Gene & Georgetti's greets you in style! You walk in the front door to the long wood bar with a 'true' bartender to greet you. Table clothes on the tables and waiters who are truly professional. The food is outstanding from the salads to the entrees (amazing steaks!), the sides and don't forget dessert! Gene & Georgetti's is a Chicago icon. If you love steaks, veal or fish and you want the best, this is the place! By the way, their chopped steak is out of this world! It's worth having at least once.
