    yum

Yummy . The neighborhood is it a bit sketchy ,( I agree w/the last reviewer )but worth it! Unique beer garden, the best margaritas in the city, and fresh authentic mexican cuisine. It can't get any better than that.

    Fond of Fonda del Mar

Yes, the restaurant is primarily known for their seafood, but their meat and vegetable dishes are delicious, too. Try the cochinita pibil (braised pork) - rarely seen on Chicago menus and seldom done as well as it is here. Comes with a blistering habanero sauce. One thing to note, Fonda del Mar is no longer BYOB. They offer margaritas and other cocktails in the $8 - 12 range and a small but reasonably-priced wine list.

    try the brunch

Yes, everything the others said about the dinner menu is true. We've never had a bad meal there, but you must try their brunch. Pancakes are INSANELY good with a carmel type sauce. Anything with chorizo is wonderful. And in a city that loves brunch it's nice to go somewhere that's not too crowded.

    Hidden Gem

Look past the somewhat-sketchy neighborhood -- this place is a real find!! The food was absolutely amazing...fresh seafood, great flavors, yummy salsa & chips. The ONLY thing we did not care for was the Tres Leches. Everything else was so flavorful. Service was good, atmosphere is fine (a bit noisy). It is still BYOB which is a huge plus in the value department. Our dinner for two including chips, salsa, guacamole, shrimp, mahi mahi, and dessert was under $50.

    You got to try!

Great food! Great service! Make sure you have the "buñuelo" for dessert!
