Not a central restaurant location, but I like that. Food is great, love the Quilmes beer. The atmosphere and service is great. I am a real customer! Not an owner plugging this restaurant.

Seriously, the empanadas are great. I've been going to Ñandu for eleven years now and I can honestly say the have the greatest tucumana empanada. I always come for the empanadas, I haven't really tried the other specialties. I've tried the chicken and the flan, they are pretty average. Great atmosphere, they have live music and wonderful show case of either paintings or pictures/slideshows of argentina. One thing that is pretty bad is trying to get the staffs attention for the check. The staff is very attentive, but when it comes to getting your check its a pain.

After watching an episode of Check Please, where El Nandu was featured, we decided to embark and try it out. First on the agenda was the Sangria. Everyone on Check Please raved about the Sangria. So, we decided to order a Full Carafe. The sangria was very sweet, but it was quite good. It was smooth, but sweet. Next on the list was the Empanadas. After ordering about half of the empanadas on the list, we were very pleased with the Chicken and Shrimp empanadas. We would have been content with having just the empanadas and sangria. The entree list is not very extensive, a few selections of chicken and steak dishes. We opted for the lighter fare, of Lemon Chicken and the Churrasca. Both entrees were fine, nothing exquisite. The mashed potatoes with the steak seemed quite simple, I would have liked to have skin-on mashed or a garlic mashed option. The yellow rice side would be my pick, if I were to return. The ambience was very nice, there was a gentleman playing guitar and the restaurant was full. Everyone applauded to his tunes. Our server was attentive to our needs, but was not over bearing. He let us enjoy the atmosphere. I would definitely go back for the sangria and empanadas.

Whether you’re out on an all girls/guys night or a one on one date El Ñandú is the perfect choice. The food tastes great and the portions are very well sized. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxing. They also have live music on certain days of the week which adds a lot to the experience. I have been going to this restaurant for at least 3 years and have never been disappointed.

There is something about El Nandu that we really liked. Its a very cozy and friendly restaurant. Colorful paintings and shelves topped with vases and flower arrangements adorn the exposed-brick walls. The restaurant was mostly filled with couples and a few bigger parties. Nothing out of the ordinary but a very enjoyable atmosphere. The waiter was very friendly and and honest. He gave us suggestions and warned us which desserts not to order. Although I haven't had empanada's anywhere else in Chicago the empanada's at El Nandu were really good. Try them with the chimichuri sauce. I had breaded chicken topped with cheese. It was amazing. The flavors were all other and the thick cheese atop the chicken bubbled and tasted delicious. The only drawback is that the food is a bit overpriced. The chicken was about $15 but it did come with a side of your choice. El Nandu is definitely worth trying.

My wife is Chilean and brought me here to this Argentinian restaurant when we started dating. I had never eaten an empanada before. I have eaten many since and from other establishments. The criolla style is OUT OF THIS WORLD DELICIOUS! The others styles are also great. The chimichurri sauce is a perfect companion. They have a small menu overall, but the food is delicious. Delicious wine and sangria, But it is a fabulous date place, small cozy, a bit tight, and loud with conversation when busy, and when they have live singer/musicians....usually solo guitarists. We've been back a couple of dozen times in the last few years. It's a wonderful cafe and I highly recommend it. recommended
