It closed in FEB 2011 but re-opened in MAY 2011 with some last minute financing and a new menu. I like the old menu better! This place would do much better if it weren't cash only!! Vegan friendly and great for a little more of an off-beat kind of food with familiar staples!

Good options for vegetarians. Hard to get a booth so tough on any more than a pair.

I've been eating at Earwax for 12 years (since they were located across the street!). Their menu and food quality is excellent. Vegetarians and vegans will love it here, so will their carnivorous friends. Try the veggie burrito, falafel sandwich or for something new try the seitan reuben. Their espresso drinks are better than Starbucks - they use Intelligensia coffee. And don't pass up dessert....they usually have a bavarian chocolate cake or other tempting delights that are to die for! They have booths and tables up front. In the summer they have tables outside in back which doubles their seating area. Downstairs are DVDs for rent with an amazing [select]ion of foreign and independent films.

Though you may not be a vegetarian or vegan, many of us enjoy that food as an occasional alternative to our normal daily diet. Not only is it typically lower in fat and healthier in other regards, it can also be delicious as proven by Earwax Cafe. The blackbean burger is rediculously delicious... and they have, without a doubt, the tastiest hummus in Chicago. Earwax is a Wicker Park staple, try it for a healthier alternative without sacraficing flavor.

it's kinda stuffy but the artsy visuals on the walls make it comfy. the food is very thoughtful and good. last time i went they didn't take credit cards. i basically remember it as being carry-out but i think there was seating. either way i ordered carry-out but the staff weren't very friendly. they were reserved which made me feel out of place. but the lentil soup was very good. i would go back for more.

Nice place to drink coffee - get some food - and rent a movie
