Way Overratted
I give this place a try every few months because I love Mexican food and work close to here. While the food is fresh, which is great, the flavor is lacking, the burrito will fall apart after 2 bites (make sure you ask for a fork), the salsa is depressing (it's basically water with Chile's floating around in it) and it is way over priced. I am typing this while I am eating my pile of food that was supposed to be a burrito. While the tortas are fun its just way to much food. You feel like a glutton if you try to eat one. Sorry Dona Torta, I try I really do, but I don't think I will be back again.

Best Mexican Around
The food is simply amazing. They use the freshest ingredients and they cook them to order. The build your own burrito is actually healthy (depending on how you order). My signature burrito you ask? Flour Tortilla, Black Beans, Lime Rice, Steak, Red Bell Peppers, Mushrooms (fresh and not from a can of course), Green Zuchini, Yellow Zuchini & Chihuaua Cheese. All that for around $8. So good my mouth is watering. The Guac is very good and fresh (though be sure to add some salt to taste). The other dishes are fantastic. I've still not tried a Torta but will soon. Great place to bring the kids or even a date. BYOB. This place takes away the reason to travel all the way down to 26th and California!

Are you kidding me??!!
Most of the vast amount of taquerias in Chicago are nearly identical in their menus and style. However, every once in a while you get the pleasure to stumble across something innately different and incredibly delicious. So I ask myself, how in nearly ten years of living in Chicago, have I not discovered Dona Torta until now? After picking up a couple of Tortas for my co-worker and myself, we both proceeded to have our minds blown! This place is phenomenal in price, quality, authenticity and most of all, flavor. We paid $11 and got two huge tortas. They were gigantic and covered in such delectible items as steak, chorizo, ham, bacon, queso chihuahua, lettuce, beans, guacamole. Really an incredible value and the staff was extremely friendly and pleasant. Definately think about dining in...their dining room is actually quite pleasant or feel free to take out. There were probably more Mexicans eating there than any other Mexican restaurant i've been to in Chicago, which is always a good sign of it's authenticity. There's truly nothing else like it in the city and I sure I will find myself there on many more occassions.
