    Fancy but not good

We came to this restaurant full of hope for a good meal from back home. The locale is nice and the atmosphere good. The service is average. The food, however, was expensive and a BIG disapointment. The arroz con gandules was bland and tasted like something coming out of a pre-cooked box. The mofongo and other dishes were not too bad, but the flavors were not genuine. For instance, the mofongo was too sweet and had no garlic flavor. It is like they are trying too hard to appear "different" and "fancy" when they should just focus on serving the time-tested versions we all love. With time they may figure it out, but for now, me and my friends are staying away from Coco.

    You'll be disappointed

The atmosphere was nice, and the décor was nice. The girl taking care of us was nice. However, I was disappointed with the flavor of the food, especially after I learned that the chef is Puerto Rican. Puerto Rican food is known for it’s delicious flavor that comes from the “sofrito”, sazon, and adobo that we use in our meals. His food had no Puerto Rican flavor at all. It was just to bland. It looked good because he presented it in a very “artsie” way, but no flavor. Too bad.

    The whole experience

I had always complaint about the fact that there are no puerto rican restaurants in the Chicago area that offer the whole dining experience: great food, great service, great entertainment, and great ambiance. Finally, there is one! Coco offers all these components that are necessary for an enjoyable dining experience. Kudos to Coco, you make me proud!!!

    Great concept, poor management

The food at this place is nice and so is the atmosphere. But the service is so slow and poor, that it makes this restaurant a risky place to go if you are trying to impress someone. The drinks are weak as well. If going for drinks and appetizers with friends, you will enjoy the music and the flavor of the place. Have dinner before you go, however, unless you want to wait for hours.
