LOVED IT!
I loved this place and will definitely go back! The food was delicious. I went with a party of six and we all tasted each other's dishes. Everything I tasted was great, except for the schzewan glazed beef, it was average. The decor was great and our server was very attentive. The food did take a bit long to come (about 40 minutes) and the food portions were on the small side (but the prices are reasonable). Overall, I rate this place 4.5 out of 5

excellent food, great vibe
Have been here a few times.. the food was always really fresh and good. definitely recommend it... they also have vegan options and brown rice which you can't find everywhere.

Poor Service
Beautiful restaurant, poor service! Our waitress took about 30 minutes in between bringing drinks, appetizers, then entrees. Upon reciving our food, all orders were mixed up. Then upon receiving our checks, all checks were miscalculated and incorrect. Our entire dining experience took a total of 3 hours, only one of which was spent dining. The other two were spent waiting and trying to correct their screwups. Also the seating wasn't that great.

Horrible service, food uhh ok
I took my sister here for lunch, we ordered an appetizer right along with our meals. Well the entrees came pretty quick, but no appetizer, and our waitress seemed surprised that we didn't receive it. Once our meal came out we had no silverware to eat with and had to wait 5 minutes for the waitress to get them. My sister ordered the curry chicken that should've had vegetables, it had all of four carrots and a bunch of potatoes. The decor is nice, but the food and the service were lacking big time.

Noisy, poor service, average food
What a disappointment! I went to Chant for a late dinner following a concert (got there about 8:45 p.m.) and the first thing I noticed when I entered was the noise level, appallingly loud. Don't go there with friends, because you won't be able to carry on a conversation! There were no tables available, so I was seated at a small, bar-like area with high stools, which was rather uncomfortable (and, as it turned out, the small space made it difficult to maneuver the dishes, flatware and glases). I was not given a menu. After several minutes, a server came up with a chipper, "how are you?" She seemed rather startled when I pointed out that I had no menu, and went off to find one. I ordered the curried chicken, which was merely passable. (The old Noodles, Etc. curries were much better!) When the bill came, I put down my cash and had another lengthy wait for the server to pick it up and bring me the change. I don't know if it was because I was a single woman dining alone, but it was NOT a pleasant experience. I won't go back.

Too bad you can't eat the decor
The space is gorgeous and should become a Friday night date spot BUT I'm not sure if people will go back for seconds unless they improve the food. I asked the waiter what was in the Tofu vegan Claypot and he said vegetables and tofu. What came was 4 huge chunks of tofu that looked ike someone had just broken some off a grocery package and dumped it in very hot broth (which I think was chicken -- not vegan, but not 100% sure) with cellophane noodles. The "vegetables" consisted of bok choy, a few limp flavorless scallion ends and rehydrated mushrooms that were so "chewy" as to be inedible. To their credit, the waiter replaced my order with a vegetarian thai dish and charged me only for it. The vegetables on that were nicely done but the portion was on the small side and the oil used left an icky coating on my tongue -- must have been one of the cheaper oils like rapeseed, cottonseed or coconut -- definitely NOT sesame or corn oil. The crispy mussel appetizer was nicely presented and was rather rich -- nice for two people but elaborate enough to make that it really slowed down our order. My friend had the lemongrass roasted chicken which she devoured and said was great. The staff was super nice but if you're going for vegetarian or thai you'd be better served by any of the four other thai restaurants in the area which are all cheaper but unfortunately all BYO while Chant has a full liquor license. Maybe the trick is knowing what to order, but how bad is that?

No place like it!
This place was a GREAT experience! We could never find another place like it in the Hyde Park area! We will definitely be back!
