Cedars

I was a frequent customer of this establishment because it’s of the quality of the food and value (service was always a hit or miss). When friends and family came from out of town, Cedars was one of the restaurants I took them to dine. NOT ANY MORE! Today, I decided to order delivery to my home and that's when my decided to no longer patronize this establishment. Cedars will not deliver to any address west of Cottage Grove (even though the distance is less than many areas in the Hyde Park area). Apparently, they feel anywhere outside of Hyde Park is undesirable. Not to worry, Leona’s and Nicky Chinese restaurants will delivery based on actual parameter distance. Additionally, the person answering the phone was extremely rude. It's too bad and very sad that their perception of an area (which by the way has and is changing) is clouding their judgment, therefore causing them to losing business. I will miss eating their food, but this is about principle.

Notice all the positive reviews are from a couple of years ago. I used to really like this place. On top of good food it had a lively, swanky feel. But the last few times I've been, the service has been horrible and the place had a weird quietness to it. The food is still OK, but I actually think the Nile tastes better, and it's cheaper.

We love Cedars! It is our number two favourite restaurant in Chicago. Try lamb chops and lentil soup. Service is always great.

I appreciated that the food was solid, not very pricy, and portions were large enough to have lunch for the next day. Plus I always love it when you can save money and bring your own bottle of wine!

Good food that keeps me coming back. Their lentil soup and chicken shawarma are both excellent. In contrast to a few reviewers here, I have never had any problems with the service.

Hyde Park has a secret few people appreciate. While other reviewers criticize Cedars for the lackluster service, I found our waitress to be perfect. She was attentive, without being over the top, she ensured our beverages were refreshed and our food was delivered in a timely fashion. As for the food...the scallops were perfectly grilled, the salad plentiful, fresh and quite good. My friend raved about the hummus (sp?), and we left totally satiated. That said, I will definitely become a regular.

It iwas a pleasure to see that there is a good Middle Eastern resturant on the south side. The food is good and the price is even better. The only complaint I have is that the service is a little lacking, but it's still worth a visit.
