    Fantastic black bean soup

Wow the black bean soup is the best! Not that is a surprise as everything here is great.

    Southside Jewel!

I've been coming to meet friends at this place for almost 20 years! It's classic Chicago, classic Raza and Pilsen--Outstanding coffee drinks, delicious sandwiches, fresh salads, service that's like family, and best of all---consistency! You'd be hard-pressed to find a place with their menu and prices on the northside--you can't them. And the art: it houses local art exhibits, with 100% profit going back to the artists! Not only will you find some outstanding work, but incredible value. And yes, they know my name!

    A Pilsen Landmark!

The best way I can describe the Bean is to compare it to the old tv show, Cheers---yes it's that funny too. They not only know your name but might even refer to you by your drink or sandwich of choice (i.e., "turkey sandwich", or "bagel monster")..I don't know how they remember so many people...It's also still a great place to get a value for those giant sandwiches and their consistent house flavor. Another great thing is you never know what famous person will stop by. I remember when the "Taco Shop Poets" stopped by for a musical number (in from Cali)...then of course when "Sones de Mexico" pulled a small set on a Saturday afternoon...and who can forget those infamous Day of the Dead celebrations...Classic Pilsen!
