Dining as if you were in Paris
I have been dining at Cafe Bernard for several years and always leave a very satisfied customer. The dark lit dining room provides a romantic atmosphere while the attentive and very well informed servers make your dining experience unforgettable. if you've ever been to Paris and have eaten at La Costes, go to Cafe Bernard or their sister restaurant, Red Rooster, while you're in Chicago, you will NOT be disappointed.

Cafe Bernard Should
Cafe Bernard has the potential to be a really great French restaurant. Unfortunately, the restaurant is filled to the brim with tables, and the servers don't have enough room to maneuver...or provide adequate service. The food was decent. I expected an authentic french onion soup, topped with tons of melted cheese, loaded with onion--the way it should be. Unfortunately, they were stingy on the cheese, the onions, and the flavor. My steak came out still breathing, and my drink was empty for a good forty minutes. Cafe Bernard should get rid of about ten tables inside the restaurant, because while they are feeding more people, the service is suffering. I received several glances from other diners, all looking for the wait staff. Cafe Bernard has potential to be really great. The food was all pretty good--aside from the French Onion Soup. Once they brought back my steak, I enjoyed it very much. Give this restaurant a chance early in the evening or later in the evening, until they figure out that sometimes less is more. Quality service brings diners back!
