    Positive Dining Experience

Blu 47 is a beautifully decorated, relaxed environment where you can enjoy a good meal. I went on a Wednesday night with a friend. The place was practically empty when we arrived, which makes sense for the middle of the week. There was no host/hostess, so our server seated us at the table of our choice. For my drink, I ordered the Blu 47 martini, which was delicious. My friend ordered the Bombay martini, which was also very good. The only food misstep I found was in the appetizer – the highly rated Chicken Lollipops. They were okay, but overall I was not impressed – especially with the pesto aioli which had too much mayonnaise for my taste. My friend ordered and enjoyed the calamari. For dinner, I ordered the Red Grill Tilapia, served blackened with black beans and rice and a fruit salsa which included pineapple. It was really good. I am not a big fan of tilapia, but I wanted to see how this restaurant prepared a blackened dish, and they did it well. The fish was flaky and perfectly seasoned. The black beans and rice were a wonderful side, similar to Jamaican rice and peas but with black beans. We were stuffed midway through the meal, so we did not order dessert. Our server was attentive through the meal and very patient while we made up our minds. It was a calm and relaxing dining experience. I will definitely be back.

    OK at best!

I have to say I was kind of disappointed with this spot! I took my girl there for V-day and the whole experience was just OK at best. The appetizers (chicken lollipops & crab cakes) were pretty good but our main courses (stuffed catfish & lamb chops) were just plain old OK! We got our food in a timely manner but I have to say I like working with one server not three or four. The tables were kind of small and trying to squeeze too many into a small area (when you first walk in) made them feel even smaller. One last thing… being that this was Valentines Day they could have hires a live performer instead of just playing CDs. This wasn’t the worst I’ve had but they really need to step their game up. Maybe they should try the sports bar look instead of fine dinning!

    What A Waste

Let's start with the positives: good atmosphere, beautiful clientele, good appetizers, and good music on thursday nights. Now, the negatives, the entrees are not good, overpriced, the wine list is poor. I've noticed that unless it's thursday night the place is empty and even on thursday, people are usually having drinks or appetizers. You'd would think the owners would get it by now. It's unfortunate because the location is great and the surrounding areas are aching for good food without having to travel downtown and to the north side of the city.

    Upscale, tasteful southern eating

I have been to Blu 47 a couple of times and have enjoyed both experiences. Thursday is a great night to go because they have a live jazz / R & B band which was above average. It is very roomy, the staff is friendly and the food is very good. The Southwestern Chicken Tarts are very flavorful and their prime rib is excellent and enough to feed 2+. They also make the best martinis. The crowd is diverse and the neighborhood is upcoming...close to Hyde Park. Very comfortable and enjoyable!

    The Quintessential So-So...

Went to Blu 47 for an early dinner last evening. The restaurant was fairly empty on a Wednesday at 6pm, but that didn't bother. First off, let me say that the atmosphere is almost beyond great. They utilize a very large space well, and you would never feel crowded...The service was mediocre, which I didn't mind either. Waiters were attentive, although it was surprising that at times it was hard to get their attention b/c there were so few people inside. Anyway, we ordered the blackened tilapia and the jumbo prawns. When the dishes came out, they were beautifully plated and garnished, but looked rather slight in terms of portions. Again, no sweat. But when we tasted our dishes, it was like the air was let out of the room. Nothing horrible, just not of the quality/taste that the atmosphere, lighting, menu presentation, etc would have suggested. The jumbo prawn dish tasted like shrimp in a little bit of that chipotle-flavored tobasco sauce, plated over a frozen corn medly. Meanwhile, the blackened tilapia was relatively tasteless, even for the blackening (go figure)...In sum, I don't want to discourage diners from [select]ing this restaurant, because it really was beautiful. But I might suggest going for the bar scene, and maybe trying some appetizers, rather than going all in on the dinner entrees. Overall, mediocre is what defines this dining experience.

    Blazin Pasta

I would like to say this restaurant has awesome pasta dishes! Don't worry about ordering for two, take your lady or guy and share an intimate dinner.... The atmosphere is great! I recommend that all ages go and enjoy this excellent place....
