Fun Atmosphere, Underwhelming Food
My girlfriend and I have been wanting to try it forever. Finally went on a Monday night. We sat pretty much on top of another couple that was friendly. The backless stools are pretty uncomfortable. Food is overrated. Favorite thing we had was a salad. Nothing was really good enough to make us want to go back, but I'm glad we tried it. It was an ok dining experience.

Superb, tasty food!
I went to avec last week with a friend and was so pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food here. So far I thought Rick Bayless was the best thing to hit town. This raises the bar for sure. Although you're meant to share plates here, with our individual dietary restrictions we ordered separately but had tastes of each other's food. The moment I tasted my orrecchiata, I knew that this would be a dish I'd crave later! The chick pea antipasto and burratta with beets were amazing too. What sets the dishes apart here is that every bite has a different flavor. In mine, there was lemon, black pepper, mint, chives, etc. This is a restaurant where you can safely order what you wouldn't normally order because nothing is what you expect it to be. And living in this foodie haven of a town and having traveled all over the world for food, my standards aren't low. I'm going back there tonight with my husband though I was there only 4 days ago! He just got back from France and I think avec will be a nice way to ease back into the US.

classic, perfect, wonderful
Yes, Avec is crowded and very very loud, and that's not for everyone. But the atmosphere that goes perfectly with Chef Grieveson's crowded, loud flavors - I swear, I could eat her chorizo-stuffed dates wrapped in bacon every day for the rest of my life. I've never had a bad thing on the menu, service is always super friendly, and wine and beer list is great. The check is always just a little pricier than I think it should be for such a no-frills place, but I'm happy to keep paying

Overrated
I dined here with three friends. We arrived early and were able to get a table before the crowds started pouring in. Two of us were able to sit with our backs against the wall. The other two diners sat on backless, uncomfortable stools. The food was fairly good, the portions were pathetic. Small plates are miniscule and the large plates not much better. Our cheese plate and salumi were pedestrian and uninspired. By the time we left the small space was crowded with guests spilling onto the sidewalk. I wanted to tell them not to waste their time or money.

Fabulous!
This place is so much fun, with amazing food, great wine and decent prices no wonder it's packed. If you're an introvert you probably won't love the communal table situation but my friend and I loved it. Had 7 new friends by the end of dinner and got to taste practically everything on the menu. Favorites were mushroom artichoke salad, focaccia and cheese plate (and try the specials). Go quick!
