The Whole Package
I've traveled the world, but I believe Chicago has the best collection of ethnic restaurants, bar none. The best of the best could be Amarind's -- it is cozy, yet roomy enough not to have long waits. Its food is first rate, unique yet familiar, (the owner having come from Arun's I've heard) and the prices are great, especially for the prix fixe weekday lunch. The service is just right -- you get what you need without feeling overly intruded upon. Try Amarind's special noodle dish -- with wisps of super fresh crab atop a heap of perfectly cooked noodles!

Good on all counts
Not only is the food excellent and plentiful, but the wait staff is attentive but not intrusive. The atmosphere is calming, and the decor includes cases with ethnic servicing pieces displayed artfully. The bathroom is spotless. It's a good place for lunch with a friend with whom you want time and space to visit. It is unhurried, and tea was replentished even after the check was brought. An added feature is a small parking lot in the rear.
