    sometimes good sometimes bad

I have been to 1492 tapas bar twice. The 1st time i sat inside and had great service. I asked the server to recommend dishes. I especially enjoyed the lamb chops. I had the lava cake for dessert. It was great. The second time I went was a week night and I sat outside. It was bad service and the food wasnt as good this time. The lava cake was cold.

    Disappointing night out

We love tapas-just not at 1492. The first two bottles of wine we tried to order from their extensive Spanish wine list the waitress said they were out of. Then she tried to get us to order a much more expensive bottle. The menu was exciting with many choices. However, all of our hot tapas came out luke warm. We had to ask for clean plates. We ordered capuccino which arrived at room temp. Our waitress said it was because the milk was cold. We had a hard time even finding our waitress most of the time. The hostess brought us our check. We will never go back here again. Too many other good tapas restaurants in and around Chicago.

    I love 1492

I have visited here several times and will come here whenever I want tapas. I recommend the chicken croquettes and the meatballs. I found the service to be efficient and friendly.

    Really Bad

They actually served us a half sandwich over a bed of Lay's potato chips and called it seared beef over frites. Wow.

    Good Food

I enjoyed 1492. I enjoyed that it's in what appears to be a old house. My cousin and I enjoyed the Paella, definitely not the best that I've ever had, but still yummy. We shared the sardines, which were so flavorful. Just yummy. Please, get a margarita, definitely the best I've ever had.

    You can find better tapas

Service wasn't great, as our waiter seemed distracted and annoyed with us for some strange reason. The food was okay but didn't have a lot of flavor and wasn't inventive. I wouldn't go here again.

    Cheap eats downtown

Finally! Just a fun place to have tasty and reasonably priced tapas downtown.. I've been at some tapas places that are too expensive for what you get. 1492 is not one of these. Friendly people, atmosphere got reduced because of the noise. Large parties sit downstairs.
